INCITS Technical Committee T11 and its TGs (Task Groups), T11.2 and T11.3, operate under the rules of the Organization, Rules and Procedures of INCITS document. The document is available on www.incits.org. The relevant portions are in clause 4.2. Portions that pertain to TC & TG membership are summarized below. The requirements for membership in the TC and the TGs are the same.
See answers to frequently asked questions below. In the case of any inconsistency the INCITS Organization, Rules and Procedures of INCITS is the authorative document.
#1: What organizations may become voting members of an INCITS TC OR TG? |
Membership is open to organizations directly and materially affected by the scope of the TC or TG that are willing to participate regularly and pay the designated service fees. Consultant organizations may become voting members, but they must declare that their participation is not being funded by any organization already having voting membership. Membership without voting privileges is established by organizations that wish to participate, but do not meet the attendance requirements. Organizations must be US-domiciled to take part in any votes establishing recommendations of US national policies. |
#2: Who may represent my organization at T11, T11.2, or T11.3? |
Each organization appoints one Principal representative, and may appoint one or more Alternate representatives. Names of all representatives must be designated in writing to both the TG Chair and the INCITS Secretariat (e-mail is OK). |
#3: How many Alternates may be appointed? |
There is no limit to the number of alternates. |
#4: What are the service fees? |
The service fees are $2275 for an organization's membership in Technical Committee T11. T11 members may become members of TGs associated with T11 (T11.2 or T11.3) at no additional charge. |
#5: "TC" and "TG"? |
A TC is a Technical Committee, which has been created by INCITS (Inter-National Committee for Information Technology Standards) to develop standards of a specific type (like Fibre Channel). A TG is a Task Group, which is created by the TC and endorsed by INCITS, for the purpose of completing specific tasks (like Fibre Channel Physical Layer standards in TG T11.2). |
#6: Are there other requirements for a voting membership? |
In order to gain membership in a TC or TG, an organization must:
The organization becomes a voting member upon attending one of the next two Plenary meetings, earning the right to vote in that Plenary and in subsequent letter ballots. The letter or e-mail to the Chair must include complete contact information for the principal representative and any alternates. The Chair will forward the membership information to INCITS to start the billing process. |
#7: Is there any way to lose voting membership? |
An organization can lose voting membership any of the following ways:
In cases 1 and 2, the committee Chair will send all representatives of the voting member a warning indicating that the organization is in danger of losing membership. This warning is called a "Jeopardy Letter. If no representative attends the meeting after being warned, or if the organization does not respond to the Letter Ballot following being warned, the organization will lose voting membership and will have to begin the process all over again. In case 3, the organization will not be warned! Voting members are expected to pay their bills. Representatives should follow up through their accounting department to be sure that the proper invoices are paid. |
#8: How are documents made available to representatives? |
INCITS provides a Document Subscription Service, by which you can receive all committee documents on a single, convenient CD-ROM. Anyone can receive the CD-ROM mailing, which is delivered bi-monthly. You have two choices for the CD-ROM:
The application form to order the mailing is on web site (www.t11.org) under the "administrative" link at the bottom of the main page. Please send the form to INCITS only, do not send it to the TC or TG Chair! All documents are also available on the T11 web site at www.t11.org. Documents related to a particular meeting are usually made available electronically at the meeting, either by wireless access or by circulating portable storage media. |
#9: My organization’s Alternate representative just ran off to a start-up! What do I do now? |
To make any changes to the representation of a voting member organization, just notify the chair of the committee of the changes. Note that representatives can make corrections and assign additional alternate representatives using the web site www.t11.org. |
