T11/02-053v0 Last update: January 30, 2002.
#1: Who can become a voting member of T11.3? |
Membership open to organizations directly and materially affected by the scope of T11.3 that are willing to participate regularly and pay the designated service fees. Consultant organizations may become voting members, but they must declare that their participation is not being funded by any organization already having voting membership. |
#2: Who may represent my organization at T11.3? |
Each organization appoints one Principal representative, and may appoint one or more Alternate representatives. Names of all representatives must be designated in writing to both the TG Chair and the INCITS Secretariat (e-mail is OK). |
#3: How many Alternates may I appoint? |
The first Alternate appointed is included in the service fees. Each additional Alternate after the first will incur additional service fees. |
#4: What are the service fees? |
In 2001, the service fees were $800 for membership. Additional Alternates incur another $800 fee (see #3). |
#5: Do I have to pay service fees for every TG? |
Here's the trick: If you are a voting member of TC T11, you only pay service fees for T11, and your service fees for any TG under T11 are waived. If, on the other hand, you are not a voting member of TC T11, then you must pay service fees for each T11 TG for which you are a voting member. Note also that Additional Alternates incur a fee for EACH TC or TG; this umbrella rule does not apply for Additional Alternates. Note that all of this applies only within TC T11, TG T11.1, TG T11.2, and TG T11.3. It does not apply to any other TC or TG! |
#6: "TC" and "TG"? |
Sorry! We get used to our acronyms... A TC is a Technical Committee, which has been created by INCITS (National Committee for Information Technology Standards) to develop standards of a specific type (like Fibre Channel). A TG is a Task Group, which is created by the TC and endorsed by INCITS, for the purpose of completing specific tasks (like FC-AL-2) (Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop - 2). |
#7: OK, are there any other requirements? |
Well, yes... In order to gain membership in T11.3, you must:
When you've done all this, you may then vote at the next Plenary attended. You may also vote (right away) in any T11.3 Letter Ballots. Note that if you have not yet been invoiced, or if you have not paid but you are not late with it, you may vote (see #8). |
#8: Is there any way to lose my membership? |
Glad you asked! You can lose membership any of the following ways by:
Note something really important here. In cases 1 and 2, the T11.3 Chair will send you a warning indicating you are in danger of losing membership. This warning is called a "Jeopardy Letter" (but don't call me "Alex"!). If you do not show up at the meeting after being warned, or if you do not turn in the Letter Ballot following being warned, you will be dropped and you have to start the process over. In case 3, you will not be warned! You are expected to pay your bills. More specifically, you are expected to know that your Accounting Department did their job! |
#9: What is this "mailing" I keep hearing about? |
INCITS provides a Document Subscription Service, by which you can receive all committee documents on a single, convenient CD-ROM. (Sorry, no paper, just plastic.) Anyone can receive the CD-ROM mailing, which is delivered bi-monthly. You have two choices for the CD-ROM:
The application form to order the mailing is on web site (http://www.t11.org/) under the "administrative" link at the bottom of the main page. Please send the form to INCITS only, do not send it to the T11.3 Chair! |
#10: My Alternate just ran off to a start-up! What do I do now? |
To make any changes to your membership, just fill out a change form and send it to INCITS with a copy to the T11.3 Chair. Note that you are also responsible for making any changes on the http://www.t11.org/ web site. |
