V2 - Information Technology Access Interfaces

About This Committee

The V2 subcommittee was originally formed to address the problem of people who could not use the native interfaces on products and who would need to attach or invoke alternate interfaces for products. The V2 committee created 5 ANSI standards for a Universal Remote Console (URC) framework (ANSI INCITS 389-2005 thru 393-2005). These were later taken to ISO and an updated 5 part standard created. The original ANSI standards were then withdrawn in favor of the updated ISO/IEC standards which were then adopted by this group and ANSI. The 5 part ISO/IEC standard is:

• ISO/IEC 24752-1:2008: Information technology - User interfaces - Universal remote console - Part 1: Framework
• ISO/IEC 24752-2:2008: Information technology - User interfaces - Universal remote console - Part 2: User interface socket description
• ISO/IEC 24752-3:2008: Information technology - User interfaces - Universal remote console - Part 3: Presentation template
• ISO/IEC 24752-4:2008: Information technology - User interfaces - Universal remote console - Part 4: Target description
• ISO/IEC 24752-5:2008: Information technology - User interfaces - Universal remote console - Part 5 : Resource description

These standards are dated March 1, 2008. For an overview of the intitial standards, see Interface Sockets, Remote Consoles, and Natural Language Agents: A V2 URC Standards Whitepaper. For a set of technical reports on implementing the URC standards, see the technical report page of the URC Consortium.

Continuing effort

The V2 is continuing its work in this area as the U.S. TAG to ISO/IEC JTC1 SC35 on "User Interfaces" and its WG6, WG7 and WG8.
